What and how to recycle Garbage rates for Vacaville Greenwaste facts Dealing with household hazardous waste Reuse, resell and repair used items Answers to frequently asked questions Safe disposal of electronic waste
In 2006 the State of California instituted a ban to prevent all electronic waste from going into the landfill. The City of Vacaville began an electronic waste drop-off program in January of 2004. See below for information on electronic waste recycling programs.
CRT's (cathode ray tubes) have been banned from landfills. Television sets and computer monitors contain CRT's which contain anywhere from 4-8 pounds of lead which is a hazardous waste that can cause serious health problems. For this reason CRT's must be disposed of properly. Computer monitors and televisions can be picked up from your home by calling Vacaville Sanitary Service at 448-2945 to schedule a curbside pick-up. This program allows residents to dispose of one unit free of charge per year per household. Additional units can be picked up for a fee dependent on size. The pick-up program is only for pick-up of televisions and/or monitors. Other electronic devices can be disposed of properly by utilizing the e-waste drop-off program (see below)
Goodwill Industries located at 1317 East Monte Vista Ave. now accepts electronics for reuse and recycling. Items must be brought to the store's donation station during open business hours. Acceptable items include working and non-working electronic equipments such as televisions, computer components, radios, VCRs, etc. Please note that occasionally the facility will not be able to accept electronic items due to storage capacity.

The City of Vacaville, in cooperation with Vacaville Sanitary Service, offers a free drop off disposal of electronic equipment such as TVs, radios, fax machines, cell phones, VCRs, microwave ovens, computers, printers, telephones, etc. The drop-off service is available every Saturday between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. at the Vacaville Sanitary Service Recycling Center located at 855 ½ Davis Street. This service is available for electronic items from the homes of residents of Vacaville, Dixon, and Unincorporated Solano County only. There is a two item limit per day and residents must be able to carry and unload their own equipment. Oversize televisions can be picked up for a fee by calling Vacaville Sanitary Service at 448-2945.
